The 2014 World Cup in Brazil was one for the books – and we’re sure the stadiums didn’t disappoint either. From Manaus to Rio, the twelve stadiums where the matches were held are just as remarkable as the games they’ve hosted.

Arena da Amazonia, Manaus

Located in the heart of the “meeting of waters”, where Amazon and Negro meet, this arena was built in the home of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup opener. It’s an open-air stadium with a 44,000 seat capacity, and is the only one with air conditioning in the whole of Brazil.

Arena de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo

Named after Corinthians, Sao Paulo’s greatest club, this 65,000-seat stadium is spectacular. It hosted the opening match between Brazil and Croatia. It also hosted some of the most important World Cup matches of all time.

Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte

This 66,000-seat stadium has been used for some amazing Brazilian football matches, and hosted the famous match between Brazil and Germany in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup. This stadium is also the largest in Minas Gerais and is steeped in World Cup history.

Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador

This stadium is the second largest in Brazil, with a capacity of over 50,000 seats. It was opened in April 2013 and is considered one of the best-built stadiums in Brazil. It hosted several matches in the group stages and was the stage for some of the most exciting games.

Estadio Nacional de Brasilia, Brasilia

This 67,000-seat stadium has been home to some of the most important football games in Brazilian history, from the 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It has also hosted concerts for some of the biggest names in music.

Maracana, Rio de Janeiro

This 78,000-seat stadium is the grandest of them all. It hosted the final of the 2014 World Cup and is steeped in history, with some phenomenal events taking place there over the years. It is considered one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world.
