The Open World Galar Region
Pokémon Sword and Shield introduces the all new Galar region to players, and it doesn't disappoint. The region offers a sprawling open world, filled with natural features and Pokémon to discover. Along the way, you'll find towns and cities to explore, while at the same time encountering wild Pokémon in their habitat. The open world allows for a more immersive game experience, adding a more realistic feel to the classic Pokémon game.
Dynamic Weather and Day/Night System
A new addition to the series is the inclusion of weather systems, as well as a day/night system. This means that depending on the real-time conditions in the area, clouds will roll in to darken the sky, and when rain appears, it will affect the way battles play out. The dynamic weather system adds depth to the game, providing an ever-shifting playing field depending on the time and day.

The series also introduces a new main character in Pokémon Sword and Shield, located in the Galar region. The new protagonist, named "Nessa", adds an interesting dynamic to the game, with a unique and fleshed-out backstory that will be sure to resonate with fans.

This being a new region, this also means new Pokémon to catch and add to the Pokédex. The Galar region provides an all-new experience in terms of Pokémon you'll find, featuring unique and adorable ones such as Wooloo and Impidimp.

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the classic gym challenge is back in its full glory. Players will once again have to battle their way through the gyms as they make their way to the top, becoming a champion in the Galar region. Along the way, they'll also be able to re-experience classic gym elements such as against powerful puzzles and Giant Boss battles. The Gym Challenge is sure to provide a nostalgic experience to veteran players, while also introducing new faces to the classic mechanics.
