Building Your Dream Team In 'Pokémon Sword Shield'

Introducing the Dream Team

It's never too early to start building your dream team in Pokémon Sword and Shield! The world of Galar has plenty of opportunities for you to assemble the ultimate squad of pocket monsters.

Bigger and Better Pokémon

As always, the starters in Sword and Shield are the first step to assembling a powerful team. The strong shackles of Chimchar, the confident strength of Grookey, and the fierce intelligence of Sobble all provide a solid foundation to gear up your squad.

In the new generation, variations of classic Pokémon have appeared. For example, Charizard now comes in Gigantamax form, which gives you access to powerful new attacks and abilities. This is just one of the unique and powerful Pokémon that you can incorporate to your team.

Types Matter

One of the most important facets of building your team is ensuring that you account for type balance. All Pokémon have a specific typing, such as Water or Electric, that determine their strengths and weaknesses. A balanced team will have each of these types represented, which will let you tackle any foe with ease.

Mixing in some dual-type Pokémon is also a great way to give yourself an edge. For example, Gyarados is a powerful Water-Flying type, providing you with both coverage against Water-resistant foes. Additionally, keep an eye out for rare Pokémon with higher stats than their counterparts, which can give you a decisive advantage in battle.

Powerful Movesets

The movesets your Pokémon have will play a big role in how you fare in battle. All Pokémon have four moves, which vary from different Types of moves such as Tackle or Bite, and even unique Z-moves that enable powerful one-time attacks when necessary.

Be sure to pick movesets that align with the type of strategy you want to use. For instance, if you want to sweep opponents quickly, selecting fast-paced moves with priority such as Quick Attack or Feint Attack. If a slower and more defensive playstyle is your goal, picking moves such as Protect or Heavy Slam could be your best bet.

Train your team!

Of course, no dream team is complete without being in top form. Make sure to put in the time and train your Pokémon so they reach their maximum potential. The strength of your pocket monsters is determined by two aspects.EVs (Effort Values) and IVs (Individual Values). EVs are obtained through battling and prove to be invaluable when doing battle.

Finally, IVs are linked to the genetics of Pokémon, so these numbers will stay the same throughout the game. The IVs for each Pokémon will determine their stats, meaning if you get a powerful IV, you'll be able to maximize that Pokémon's power.

With this knowledge in mind, you're ready to create your own Dream Team in Pokémon Sword and Shield! Jump into the world of Galar and start your quest to become a Pokémon master.
