The Prodigal Genius of Nikola Tesla
Early Years
Tesla was born into a Serbian family in modern-day Croatia, and from a very early age it became clear that he was a prodigy. At just three years old, he was able to memorize entire books and was a keen inventor.
Recognition of Genius
At the age of 24, Tesla moved to the United States and was employed by Thomas Edison, for whom he worked on a laboratory with remarkable inventions. However, the two famously had a falling out and parted ways.
Technical Advancements
The aftermath of his split with Edison marked the beginning of a period in which Tesla established numerous patents. He developed the alternating current (AC) motor, the Tesla coil and the radio. In addition, he worked on x-ray imaging and wireless communication.
Other Accomplishments
Tesla also researched and theorized about, among other things, robotics, aerodynamics, electronic oscillators and superconductivity. This resulted in the creation of the Wardenclyffe Tower, which was the first broadcast tower, which he operated in Long Island, New York.
Legacy
Tesla is today remembered as an innovator extraordinaire and one of the greatest inventors of all time. As the father of modern electricity, the effects of his work is still felt to this very day.
