For a white tiger to be born, both of their parents must carry the recessive gene. A white tiger cub is also known as a “true white tiger” when both its parents are white tigers as well.

The white tigers that exist today are descended from a single white tiger, known as Mohan, that was captured in India in 1951. He had a white fur and deep blue eyes, which made him one of the most remarkable tigers alive at the time.
