The Rolling Stones: Insider Perspectives from Dino Woodard
What It's Like To Be On Tour With The Rolling Stones
Dino Woodard has been on the road with legendary rock band The Rolling Stones for almost two decades, so he's seen virtually every corner of the globe and many of the band's most celebrated tours. From the exciting London Stadium gigs to vast stadium shows across Europe, here's what he has to say about his experience.
On Tour Essentials
No matter the location, there are certain necessities that Woodard brings with him on tour -- from snacks to entertainment. He tells us that a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and his laptop are essential, while an array of classic music and travel books provide a welcome escape from the hectic day-to-day life on the road.
Accommodations
Though he admits to having had some unusual accommodations in the past, these days Woodard opts for much more conventional lodgings, with the band choosing to stay in well-furnished hotels between shows. “The crew always take care of us, no matter where we are,” he says. “It’s great to have a comfortable place to rest after a long day of traveling.”
Seeing The World
Beyond the grind of travel and ambulances, Woodard stresses the importance of seeing the sights, saying, “I consider seeing the world one of the greatest privileges of the job. I always take time to explore parts of the cities and countries that I find interesting and often try to fit in a few museums or art galleries where I can.”
Down-Time & Dining
The Rolling Stones entourage is rarely short of time off or leisurely meals in foreign cities, however. “We enjoy doing the touristy things when we have the chance, especially eating out,” Woodard describes. “We’ve had amazing dining experiences in some of the most incredible cities around the world.”
Life On The Road With The Rolling Stones
Woodard's time on tour with The Rolling Stones has been filled with many memories, both good and bad. He says that the best part is the people, noting, “It’s an incredible experience to perform for so many people who all have the same love for the music. It’s a privilege to see the world with such an amazing collection of people.”
