Later in 1896 he changed his professional name to Harry Houdini based on French magician Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin. It was also in this year that Houdini was trained by a professional magician, Dr. Lynn. This training established a foundation of magic tricks he would use in his performances.
Break Through To Fame
By 1899, Houdini had become a major headliner in vaudeville and had perfected his signature trick of escaping from handcuffs. This was a massive sensation at the time and made Houdini a household name. Houdini continued to build on his act and took on dangerous and daring stunts which elevated him even further in fame.
