Influenced by the West: The American Culture Reflected in Vincent Volajus' Character
It's no secret that American culture has had a significant impact on the rest of the world. From music and movies to fashion and food, American influences are widespread and can be seen in different aspects of life. But one of the most intriguing examples of this influence can be found in the character of Vincent Volajus, the protagonist of my latest novel "The Colors of the Sunset".
Vincent is a young man hailing from a small, secluded village in Eastern Europe. His upbringing was heavily influenced by his traditional, conservative parents and the strict values of his community. However, Vincent's life takes a drastic turn when he leaves his village and moves to the United States for better opportunities.
As a writer, I have always been fascinated by the way a change in environment can shape a person. And in the case of Vincent, this change was nothing short of monumental. From the moment he arrived in America, he was exposed to a whole new world that was vastly different from what he had known before.
One of the first things that struck Vincent was the diversity of the American culture. Unlike his homogenous village, he found himself surrounded by people of different races, religions, and backgrounds. This exposure opened his eyes to new perspectives and challenged his preconceived notions about the world. It also made him more accepting and open-minded, a trait that his conservative upbringing had not allowed.
The American culture's emphasis on individualism also had a profound impact on Vincent. Growing up in a collectivist society, he was used to prioritizing the needs of the community over his own. But in America, he was encouraged to think for himself and pursue his own dreams and goals. This newfound sense of freedom and self-discovery had a profound effect on Vincent's character development.
Furthermore, Vincent's exposure to American media, such as television and films, played a significant role in shaping his personality. He found himself gravitating towards the bold, confident and outspoken characters he saw on screen, a stark contrast to his reserved and timid nature. Being in America also exposed him to various forms of art, such as paintings, music, and literature, which inspired him and helped him find his own creative voice.
Through Vincent's character, I wanted to showcase the impact of the American culture on someone from a vastly different background. His journey is a reflection of many immigrants who come to America searching for a better life and are shaped by the diverse and dynamic culture of the country.
So next time you read a book or watch a movie featuring a character whose personality has been influenced by the American culture, think about the real-life people who experience this every day. And perhaps, just like Vincent, their journey will inspire and enlighten you in ways you never thought possible.
