Exploring Morality and Choice in 'The Matrix'
Exploring Morality and Choice in The Matrix
Most of us have seen The Matrix and some of us have discussed it's underlying themes and explored the moral and ethical choices presented within it. But when we reexamine the movie, we find that it wasn't simply a story about Neo's transformation from victim to hero - it was a story about the power of choice.
Perhaps the most fascinating element of the movie is its exploration of Morality. The Matrix exemplified how our choices and decisions will be the determining factor of the outcome of our lives. This is illustrated by Neo's decision between the two pills: the blue pill and the red pill. His decision on whether or not to take either pill will ultimately decide his fate in the Matrix world and whether or not he will accept reality.
What Neo ultimately chooses is the difficult Red Pill — to accept the truth about his world. He makes a brave decision to move away from escapism and instead learns to live with the truth about his world. However, this decision takes a great amount of courage as Neo was giving up on a comfortable life with neither pain nor joy in favor of embracing reality.
The journey that follows his taking the red pill further illuminates Morality and Human Choice. Neo must now learn to stand up for what is right and fight for what he believes in. As part of the struggle Neo must stand up against the >Matrix
By choosing to take the Red Pill, Neo demonstrated the importance of standing up for our own Rights and Freedoms and making decisions based on Morality and Equality. By choosing this alternate path of enlightenment, Neo had to face the harsh reality of his world and stand up for what is just and true.
So in the end, it becomes very clear that The Matrix is really about exploring Morality and Choice. It gives us important lessons about standing up for ourselves, making wise decisions, and ultimately embracing the truths of our world. In the end, it boils down to making brave choices and doing what is right, even in the face of adversity.
